Suryakumar Yadav Surpasses Jos Buttler for Most Sixes in T20Is

India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, added another remarkable achievement to his glittering career by overtaking England’s Jos Buttler for the most sixes in T20 Internationals. This historic moment came during India’s first T20I against Bangladesh in Gwalior, where Suryakumar played a blistering cameo to propel his team to a comfortable victory.

Renowned for his innovative stroke play and often referred to as “India’s Mr. 360” for his ability to hit shots all around the ground, Suryakumar once again lived up to his reputation. In his 14-ball knock, he smashed three towering sixes, helping India chase down Bangladesh’s modest target of 128. With these sixes, he leapfrogged Buttler’s record of 137 sixes, taking his total to 139 sixes in T20I cricket.

The match itself was a one-sided affair, with Bangladesh posting just 127 runs after being put into bat by Suryakumar, who won the toss. India’s bowlers executed a disciplined performance to restrict the visitors, and Suryakumar’s leadership was evident in the way the team approached the game. India started their chase aggressively, with Sanu Samson and Abhishek Sharma taking the attack to Bangladesh’s bowlers early on. However, a moment of misfortune saw Abhishek run out, bringing Suryakumar to the crease.

Undeterred by the early setback, Suryakumar quickly made his presence felt. He announced his arrival with a massive six off Mustafizur Rahman over square leg. The Indian captain continued to target Bangladesh’s bowlers, launching another powerful six off Taskin Ahmed, which allowed him to surpass Buttler’s record. His strike rate of 207.14 demonstrated his intent to finish the game quickly, scoring 29 runs off 14 balls, including two boundaries and three sixes.

India’s chase was wrapped up efficiently, with Hardik Pandya and Nitish Kumar Reddy finishing unbeaten, securing an eight-wicket victory with more than eight overs to spare. Pandya’s 39* and Reddy’s 16* added an unbroken partnership of 52 runs off just 24 balls to guide India home comfortably.

Suryakumar’s achievement of hitting the most sixes in T20Is places him fourth on the all-time list of T20I six-hitters, behind India’s Rohit Sharma (205), New Zealand’s Martin Guptill (173), and West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran (144). With Rohit Sharma having retired from international T20 cricket, Suryakumar is the leading active Indian in this elite group, cementing his status as one of the most destructive batters in modern T20 cricket.

Top 5 Batsmen with Most Sixes in T20 Cricket
