Yashasvi Jaiswal – The Fifth Indian to Surpass 600 Runs in a Test Series

In a remarkable display of talent and consistency, India’s rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal etched his name in the annals of Test cricket history by becoming the fifth Indian to amass over 600 runs in a single series. The 22-year-old left-handed batsman achieved this milestone during the ongoing fourth Test against England in Ranchi, where India is attempting to seal the series.

Jaiswal’s journey to this feat has been nothing short of spectacular. Making his debut for India in July 2023 during the West Indies tour, he wasted no time in leaving a lasting impression. The young sensation achieved the milestone in just his seventh innings after taking a single off Shoaib Bashir’s bowling to reach 55 not out, showcasing his prowess with a brilliant knock of 73 runs off 117 balls.

The Uttar Pradesh-born cricketer had earlier set the stage on fire by recording two double centuries in the second and third Tests against England in Vizag and Rajkot, respectively. These monumental innings played a pivotal role in India taking a 2-1 lead in the series. With a total of 618 runs in seven innings at an impressive average of 103 and a strike rate of 78.32, Jaiswal’s contribution has been instrumental in India’s success.

By achieving this milestone, Yashasvi Jaiswal joins an illustrious list that includes legendary Indian batsmen Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, and Dilip Sardesai. Gavaskar, Kohli, and Dravid had achieved this feat twice, underlining the rarity and significance of Jaiswal’s accomplishment.

Sunil Gavaskar set the record for the most runs by an Indian batsman in a Test series, amassing 774 runs in a series with four centuries and three half-centuries at an astonishing average of 154.8.

While Jaiswal has a long way to go, his inclusion in this elite club is a clear sign that the young talent is destined for greatness. With continued dedication and improvement, Jaiswal could very well become the next big name in Indian cricket history.
