India Register Their Biggest-Ever Win in Women’s T20 World Cup History

India’s women’s cricket team made history on Wednesday, October 9, with their largest-ever margin of victory in a Women’s T20 World Cup, defeating Sri Lanka by 82 runs in Dubai. This dominant win not only boosted India’s chances in the tournament but also surpassed their previous best margin of 79 runs, set against Bangladesh in 2014.

This victory by 82 runs broke India’s previous record of a 79-run win against Bangladesh in 2014. It also propelled India to second place in the points table, significantly improving their net run rate. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, became the second team, after Scotland, to be eliminated from the tournament.

Biggest victory margins for India in Women’s T20 World Cups

  • 82 runs vs SL-w, Dubai, 2024
  • 79 runs vs BAN-W, Sylhet, 2014
  • 72 runs vs BAN-W, Bengaluru, 2016
  • 71 runs vs SL-W, Basseterre, 2010
  • 52 runs vs IRE-W, Guyana, 2018

India’s bowling unit was outstanding throughout the match, complementing the efforts of the batters. The Sri Lankan lineup could never recover from the early blows, and the Indian spinners wrapped up the innings efficiently. This victory now stands as India’s biggest in the history of the Women’s T20 World Cup, underlining their growing dominance in the format.

India will now face defending champions Australia in their next group-stage match, which is expected to be a thrilling encounter. With this momentum, Harmanpreet Kaur’s team will be looking to secure their place in the semi-finals and continue their impressive run in the tournament.
