Pakistan’s cricket team is celebrating a historic achievement by their captain, Babar Azam. He has officially become the skipper with the most wins in the shortest format of the game, Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is)!
This incredible feat came after Pakistan’s thrilling victory against Ireland. Chasing a tough target of 193 runs, Pakistan secured the win with plenty of overs to spare, thanks to a brilliant partnership between Mohammad Rizwan (75 runs) and Fakhar Zaman (78 runs). While Babar himself couldn’t contribute with the bat this time, his leadership and tactics proved crucial.
With this win, Babar has now led Pakistan to a record-breaking 45 T20I victories as their captain. This puts him ahead of some legendary names in the game. Australian captain Aaron Finch comes in second with 40 wins, followed by Uganda‘s Brian Masaba with 44 wins.
Other greats like England‘s World Cup winner Eoin Morgan (42 wins), India‘s MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma (both tied with 41 wins each), and Afghanistan‘s former captain Asghar Afghan (42 wins) also feature on the prestigious list.
Most wins as captain in T20Is (including Super Over wins)
45 wins in 78 matches – Babar Azam (Pakistan)
44 wins in 56 matches – Brian Masaba (Uganda)
44 wins in 71 matches – Eoin Morgan (England)
42 wins in 52 matches – Asghar Afghan (Afghanistan)
42 wins in 54 matches – Rohit Sharma (India)
42 wins in 72 matches – MS Dhoni (India)
Even though Babar got out early, the partnership between Rizwan and Fakhar took the game away from Ireland. Fakhar’s explosive batting, including six sixes, and Rizwan’s steady support set the stage for a comfortable win. Azam Khan’s quickfire 30 runs off just 10 deliveries sealed the deal for Pakistan.
The two teams will now clash in the final match of the series in Dublin on Tuesday. With Babar at the helm, Pakistan will be looking to maintain their winning streak and end the series on a high note.
