Royal Challengers Bangalore Reaches Historic 250th IPL Match!

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) celebrated a special occasion on Thursday, April 25th, by playing their 250th match in the Indian Premier League (IPL).  While they secured a win in this milestone match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the bigger story is RCB’s long and exciting journey in the IPL.

Founded in the league’s inaugural season in 2008, RCB is one of the most recognizable franchises in the IPL.  Despite never clinching the coveted IPL trophy, they’ve reached the finals three times – in 2009, 2011, and most recently in 2016.  They’ve also been a consistent playoff contender, qualifying for the knockout stages eight times in the past 16 seasons.

Throughout their 250 matches, RCB has seen its fair share of victories and defeats. They’ve emerged victorious in 116 matches, while their opponents came out on top in 127. There have also been four tied matches, with RCB winning two via the Super Over and losing one. Overall, their win percentage sits at around 47%.

While the current season might not be their strongest showing, with only two wins from eight matches so far, RCB has managed to win on all three of their landmark matches – the 100th, 200th, and now the 250th. This milestone match also marked a special occasion for the league, as it’s the second time a team has reached 250 matches. Mumbai Indians, the joint-most successful franchise with five trophies, hold the record for most matches played at 255. Notably, later this season, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders will also join the 250-match club.

The IPL wouldn’t be the same without the passionate RCB fans and their iconic red jerseys. Here’s to hoping they can turn things around this season and maybe even make another run for the championship title!
