Yash Thakur Records Best Bowling Figures of IPL 2024
Lucknow Super Giants pacer Yash Thakur has become the hero of the hour, claiming the first ever five-wicket haul of the 2024 IPL season! His fiery bowling spell against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at Lucknow on Sunday left everyone stunned.
The 25-year-old speedster unleashed a devastating attack on the GT batting lineup, finishing his spell with a phenomenal 5 wickets for just 30 runs in just 4 overs! Not only were these impressive figures, but they also translated to an outstanding economy rate of 7.50, signifying that Thakur barely gave away any runs. This incredible feat also makes him the second-best bowler in LSG history, following closely behind England’s Mark Wood who achieved 5/14 last year.
But Thakur’s impact goes beyond just LSG records. He has now joined the elite company of Umran Malik and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, becoming the third bowler ever to claim a five-wicket haul against the Gujarat Titans.
While Thakur currently holds the best bowling figures of the season, it’s important to remember that the IPL has witnessed even more exceptional bowling performances in the past. The all-time record belongs to West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph, who took an unbelievable 6 wickets for just 12 runs back in 2019!
The young pacer started strong, dismissing Titans’ captain Shubman Gill with a sharp yorker in the very 5th over. The 15th over saw Thakur turn the tide completely. He dismissed both Vijay Shankar and the dangerous Rashid Khan in quick succession, leaving the GT batting lineup in tatters. Finally, in the 19th over, Thakur wrapped things up by taking the wickets of Rahul Tewatia and Noor Ahmed, sealing a well-deserved victory for the Lucknow Super Giants.
This incredible performance adds to Thakur’s growing reputation. He now has a total of 6 wickets in just 3 matches this season, with a very economical bowling average of 10.25.
