The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a significant step to recognize and reward outstanding performances in domestic cricket. In a move aimed at fostering a more rewarding environment for Indian cricketers, the BCCI has announced prize money for the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament in all women’s and junior cricket tournaments.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah made the announcement on social media, stating, “We are introducing prize money for the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament in all Women’s and Junior Cricket tournaments under our Domestic Cricket Programme. Additionally, prize money will be awarded for the Player of the Match in the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali tournaments for Senior Men.”
This initiative is part of the BCCI’s ongoing efforts to enhance the domestic cricket structure and provide incentives for players to excel at all levels. The introduction of prize money for women’s and junior cricket is a particularly important step, as it recognizes the growing talent and contributions of these players.
The BCCI has a history of rewarding excellence in domestic cricket. In the past, they have increased prize money for tournaments like the Ranji Trophy, Irani Cup, and Duleep Trophy. The latest announcement further demonstrates their commitment to recognizing and rewarding outstanding performances.
In addition to the prize money for domestic tournaments, the BCCI has also introduced a Test cricket incentive scheme. Players who feature in the playing XI of more than 50 percent of Tests in a season will receive a financial incentive of Rs 30 lakh per game. This scheme aims to encourage players to prioritize Test cricket and contribute to India’s success in the longer format.
As the BCCI continues to take steps to improve domestic cricket, it is clear that they are committed to creating a more rewarding and competitive environment for Indian cricketers. The introduction of prize money for women’s and junior cricket, along with the Test cricket incentive scheme, are significant steps in the right direction.
