Bumrah Becomes 1st Indian Bowler to Pick Up 20 Wickets in an IPL Season for the 4th Time

Jasprit Bumrah, the star fast bowler for India and the Mumbai Indians (MI), has cemented his place in IPL history! He has become the first Indian bowler, and only the second pacer ever, to grab a whopping 20 wickets in an IPL season – for the fourth time!  This achievement puts him in a league of his own, alongside his Mumbai Indians bowling coach, Lasith Malinga.

This milestone came during a recent match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), even though MI ended up losing the game. Bumrah’s brilliance shone through with two crucial wickets, showcasing why he’s considered one of the best. He even took the coveted “Orange Cap” back from his coach, Malinga, which is awarded to the leading wicket-taker in the IPL.

So, what exactly makes this feat so impressive?  Well, Bumrah has reached the 20-wicket mark a staggering four times in his IPL career – in 2017, 2020, 2021, and now in 2024! This consistency is unmatched by any other Indian bowler.

Looking at his bowling against KKR, Bumrah started strong, dismissing KKR’s top batsman with a magical first ball.  He later displayed his mastery of death overs by claiming another important wicket. These two dismissals not only helped him reclaim the “Orange Cap” but also pushed his wicket tally to a remarkable 20 for the season, with one match still to play!

While Mumbai Indians haven’t had the best season overall, Bumrah’s exceptional performance has been a beacon of light.  His dedication and skill have earned him a special place in IPL history.  It’ll be exciting to see if he can add even more wickets to his name in the remaining match!
