India Squad for Bangladesh T20I Series Announced

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled a 15-member squad for the upcoming Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Bangladesh, set to commence on October 6 in Gwalior. The squad announcement comes with a few surprises, as several key players, including wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, are notably absent from the team.

One of the most exciting inclusions is fast bowler Mayank Yadav, who earned his first national call-up after making waves in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season. Playing for Lucknow Super Giants, Mayank impressed cricket fans with his ability to consistently bowl at speeds exceeding 150 km/h (93.2 mph). His performance in the IPL highlighted his pace and accuracy, earning him a spot in the national team.

In addition to Mayank, the squad marks the return of mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy and wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma. Although Jitesh is back in the national setup, Sanju Samson is expected to take the lead as the first-choice wicketkeeper for the Suryakumar Yadav-led side. Samson’s experience will be vital for the team in this series.

Among the players who might make their international debuts are seam-bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy and pacer Harshit Rana, alongside Mayank. This series presents a great opportunity for these newcomers to showcase their talent on a larger stage.

With Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj rested, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has been tasked with leading the fast-bowling unit. The squad also includes three seam-bowling all-rounders: Reddy, Hardik Pandya, and Shivam Dube, offering a versatile mix of skills. Notably, the absence of key players like Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal may impact the team, but it also opens doors for fresh talent to shine. Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, and Shivam Dube are included as all-rounders, while Ravi Bishnoi and Varun Chakaravarthy will provide spin options.

Suryakumar Yadav, who took over the captaincy after the retirement of Rohit Sharma, will lead the squad into this crucial series. Following India’s triumph in the T20 World Cup in June, Rohit and Virat Kohli stepped back from the format, allowing new leaders like Suryakumar to emerge.

The three-match T20I series will kick off in Gwalior on October 6, with the subsequent matches scheduled for October 9 in New Delhi and October 12 in Hyderabad. This series presents an excellent opportunity for India to test their squad depth and for new players to establish themselves in the national team.
