ICC moves women’s T20 World Cup out of Bangladesh to the UAE

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made the decision to move the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 out of Bangladesh and host it in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This shift was prompted by ongoing political unrest and travel advisories issued by several countries.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was initially set to host the tournament, but due to the ongoing anti-government protests and subsequent political instability, the ICC deemed it necessary to relocate the event. The BCB, however, will retain the hosting rights and is expected to host an ICC global event in the near future.

The UAE, a prominent cricketing hub, has stepped in to host the tournament on behalf of the BCB. The country has a proven track record of successfully hosting major cricket events, including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2021.

The decision to move the tournament to the UAE was made after careful consideration of various factors, including the safety and security of participating teams and players. The UAE’s world-class facilities and infrastructure, coupled with its experience in hosting international cricket events, made it a suitable alternative.

The Women’s T20 World Cup will now take place in Dubai and Sharjah from October 3 to 20. This shift in venue will undoubtedly impact the tournament’s dynamics, as players and teams adjust to new conditions and cultural environments.

While the relocation of the tournament is a setback for Bangladesh, it presents an opportunity for the UAE to showcase its cricketing prowess and further solidify its position as a global cricketing hub. The tournament is expected to attract significant attention from fans around the world, and it will be a chance for the participating teams to compete for the coveted championship title.
