Zampa Creates History; Becomes 2nd Australian to Pick-Up 300 T20 Wicket

Australian spinner Adam Zampa etched his name in cricket history by becoming the second Aussie bowler to claim 300 wickets in T20 cricket. This remarkable feat came during their opening T20 World Cup match against Oman in Barbados.

Zampa’s magical moment arrived in the 12th over when he dismissed Shoaib Khan with a clever delivery. The batsman misjudged the flight and speed, allowing the ball to clip the stumps. This wicket not only secured Zampa’s milestone but also put a dent in Oman’s batting.

While Zampa’s 2 wickets for 24 runs were impressive, his overall record is even more remarkable. In 258 T20 matches, he has picked up 301 wickets at an outstanding average of 22.64. He’s known for his economical bowling, maintaining a rate of just 7.44 runs per over.

This achievement places Zampa in an elite group of bowlers. He’s the second Australian, following Andrew Tye (332 wickets), to reach the 300-wicket mark in T20s. Globally, he sits at 27th on the all-time list, with the likes of Dwayne Bravo (625 wickets), Rashid Khan (576 wickets), and Sunil Narine (552 wickets) far ahead.

The match itself was a convincing win for Australia. After winning the toss, Oman opted to bowl first. Despite a shaky start that saw them at 50/3, Australia recovered brilliantly thanks to half-centuries from David Warner (56) and Marcus Stoinis (67). Their innings closed at a competitive 164/5.

Oman’s chase never really got going. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals, with only Ayaan Khan (36) and Mehran Khan (27) showing some resistance. Australia’s bowlers, led by Stoinis’ 3 wickets for 19 runs, kept the pressure on, restricting Oman to 125/9 in their 20 overs. Stoinis’ all-around performance earned him the Player of the Match award.

Zampa’s milestone and Australia’s dominant win mark a perfect start to their T20 World Cup campaign. They’ll be looking to carry this momentum forward in the upcoming matches.
