WTC Update: Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy Shines, Aiming for the Top Spot

The recent Test series between India and England witnessed a significant shift in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings. The Indian team, captained by Rohit Sharma, against England, not only sealed the series but also showcased a remarkable display of leadership and talent. The win in Ranchi resulted in India to the stand in the second position in the WTC 2023-25 Points Table, with a renewed focus on reaching the WTC Final 2025.

Rohit Sharma’s captaincy came to shine as India, despite being one down after the Hyderabad Test, clinched three consecutive victories to secure an unarguable 3-1 lead in the five-match series. This win helped India jump from a 59.52-point percentage to an impressive 64.58 in the ICC WTC 2023-25 and continue their winning streak at home with their 17th successive Test series win.

Currently, New Zealand occupies the top spot with a win percentage of 75, but India, with their impressive 64.58% from their five wins out of eight matches, is not far behind. While India’s path to the final appears promising, they still face tough competition from teams like Australia (55%) and Bangladesh (50%), who are currently positioned third and fourth, respectively. England, on the other hand, has suffered a significant setback, dropping to eighth place with only 19.44%, just above Sri Lanka.

Looking ahead, India has a crucial schedule with upcoming series against Bangladesh, New Zealand (both at home), and the Border–Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. These matches will be critical in determining their WTC fate, but seeing their current form and records after records being smashed by the young stars, India stands a strong chance of reaching the WTC Final.
