Sanju Samson Surpasses Dhoni in the third T20I against Bangladesh

In a match that will be remembered for its record-breaking exploits, Sanju Samson etched his name into the history books of Indian cricket. The wicketkeeper-batsman became the first Indian wicketkeeper to score a century in a T20I match, surpassing the legendary MS Dhoni.

In an unforgettable match, Sanju Samson delivered a stellar performance smashing his maiden T20I century, helping India post an imposing total of 297/6. This innings not only guided India to a massive 133-run victory but also marked Samson’s entry into the record books as the first Indian wicketkeeper-batsman to score a century in T20Is.

Samson’s innings was a masterclass in power hitting. He smashed 111 runs from just 47 balls, including 11 fours and eight sixes. His strike rate of 236.17 showcased his ability to dominate bowlers with his aggressive approach.

His century came in only 40 deliveries, making it the third-fastest T20I century by an Indian. His partnership with captain Suryakumar Yadav was instrumental in India’s success, as the duo added a massive 173 runs for the second wicket in just 11.3 overs. Samson, in particular, was in destructive form, hitting 11 boundaries and eight sixes, with five of those sixes coming in a single over off Rishad Hossain.

Samson’s century not only broke Dhoni’s record but also made him the third-fastest Indian to reach the milestone in T20I cricket. Only Rohit Sharma and David Miller have scored T20I centuries in fewer deliveries.

The wicketkeeper-batsman’s impressive performance has solidified his place in the Indian T20I team. With his ability to score runs at a rapid pace and keep wickets with efficiency, Samson is a valuable asset to the side.

By scoring this century, Samson not only surpassed Ishan Kishan, who held the previous record for the highest score by an Indian wicketkeeper in T20Is with 89, but he also set himself apart from legendary players like MS Dhoni and Rishabh Pant. Dhoni, widely regarded as one of India’s greatest wicketkeepers, never scored a century in T20Is, finishing his career with two half-centuries. Rishabh Pant has also yet to reach the century mark in T20Is, despite having three half-centuries to his name.

India’s victory in the third T20I completed a 3-0 whitewash over Bangladesh. The series win has boosted their confidence ahead of the upcoming T20I series against South Africa.
