R Ashwin Creates History, Becomes Leading Wicket-Taker in WTC

India’s star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made history on Thursday by becoming the leading wicket-taker in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC). Ashwin achieved this milestone during the second Test against New Zealand in Pune. In the morning session, Ashwin dismissed New Zealand captain Tom Latham and opener Will Young, bringing his total tally to 188 wickets in 39 WTC matches, surpassing Australia’s Nathan Lyon, who held 187 wickets.

Ashwin’s superb bowling helped restrict New Zealand to 92/2 at lunch on Day 1, putting India in a strong position in a must-win game. This match is crucial for India, as New Zealand claimed victory in the first Test, winning by 8 wickets. Ashwin’s two wickets not only put New Zealand on the back foot but also added to his legacy in the WTC.

 

Ashwin Tops the WTC Wicket-Takers List

Ashwin’s 188 wickets place him at the top of the all-time leading wicket-takers in WTC history. Nathan Lyon now trails with 187 wickets, followed by Australia’s Pat Cummins with 175. With the series still ongoing, Ashwin has the chance to become the first-ever bowler to reach 200 wickets in the WTC.
