Kuldeep Yadav Registers 2nd Highest Score By Batter At Number Nine In IPL History

Delhi Capitals’ ace spinner Kuldeep Yadav surprised everyone on Monday night, not with his bowling, but with his fiery batting!  Playing against Kolkata Knight Riders, Kuldeep became the second-highest scorer in IPL history for a batsman coming in at number nine or lower.

With Delhi in a precarious position at 101/7, Kuldeep walked out to the crease.  Little did anyone expect the fireworks that followed!  He smashed a brilliant 35 runs off just 26 balls, including five boundaries and a six, at a blistering strike rate of over 134.  Remarkably, he remained unbeaten, helping Delhi reach a slightly more respectable total of 153 runs.

This knock puts Kuldeep just behind the legendary Harbhajan Singh in the record books.  Back in 2008, Harbhajan, also batting at number nine for Mumbai Indians, blasted an unbeaten 49 off just 18 balls against Deccan Chargers, guiding his team to a winning score.

While Kuldeep stole the batting spotlight, the rest of the Delhi innings was a struggle.  Skipper Rishabh Pant offered some resistance with 27 runs in 20 balls, but wickets fell consistently throughout the innings.  Kolkata’s spin attack, led by Varun Chakaravarthy‘s three wickets, did most of the damage.

Chasing a modest target of 154, Kolkata had the upper hand throughout.  Phil Salt led the charge with a dominant knock, and despite losing some wickets, Kolkata cruised to victory with seven wickets and 21 balls to spare.  Skipper Shreyas Iyer and opener Venkatesh Iyer played crucial roles in the chase.

While Kuldeep’s batting heroics couldn’t save the match for Delhi, his knock will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the most unexpected highlights of the season.  It’s a reminder that even bowlers can pack a hidden punch!
