Kedar Jadhav announces retirement from all forms of cricket

Indian cricketer Kedar Jadhav has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, closing the curtain on a successful 15-year career. The 39-year-old batsman, known for his dependable batting and handy off-spin bowling, took to social media to share the news with fans.

Jadhav’s international career began in 2014, and he went on to represent India in 73 ODIs and 9 T20Is.  He carved a niche for himself as a finisher, often coming in during the latter stages of an innings to provide a quick burst of runs. This was evident in his impressive ODI record of 1389 runs at an average of over 42, including two centuries and six fifties. He also chipped in with 27 wickets with his part-time bowling.

While his international career ended in 2020, Jadhav’s cricketing journey started much earlier.  Domestically, he shone brightly, scoring a triple century in the prestigious Ranji Trophy and becoming the highest run-getter in the 2013-14 season.  His talent caught the eye of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises, and he played for several teams throughout his IPL career, including Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings, where he shared a close bond with former Indian captain MS Dhoni.

Jadhav’s retirement announcement on social media was a heartfelt tribute to his fans and his cricketing journey.  Mirroring the iconic retirement note of Dhoni, Jadhav posted a slideshow of pictures from his career with a message thanking everyone for their support and announcing his retirement at 3 PM IST. This unique gesture highlighted the strong bond between the two cricketers.

Thank you all for your love and support throughout my career. From 1500 hrs, consider me as retired from all forms of cricket,” he wrote, confirming his retirement at 3 pm IST on Monday.

Jadhav’s retirement marks the end of an era for a player who consistently delivered for the Indian team. His ability to adapt to different situations, his valuable contributions with both bat and ball, and his positive presence on the field will be fondly remembered by fans. As he steps away from the game, Jadhav leaves behind a legacy of dedication and versatility, inspiring aspiring cricketers across the country.
