Yashasvi Jaiswal, a rising star in Indian cricket, has bagged a prestigious award! He was voted the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Men’s Player of the Month for February 2024. This is a big deal, and Jaiswal beat out other talented players like New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka to win.
February was a fantastic month for him. He scored an amazing two double centuries (that’s over 200 runs in a single innings!) in Test matches against England, one right after the other! In fact, he’s currently the leading scorer in the ongoing World Test Championship 2023-25, with a whopping 1028 runs and he is not stopping anytime soon.
Jaiswal played a key role in India’s 4-1 victory over England in a recent five-match Test series at home. He scored the most runs out of anyone in the entire series, a massive 712 runs, and was even named Player of the Series!
His best performances were in Vizag and Rajkot, where he slammed incredible double hundreds in back-to-back matches. During the Vizag test, the left-handed batter smashed 209 runs and in the third test match in Rajkot, Jaiswal hammered 214* off 236 deliveries, including 14 fours and 12 sixes in his innings and became the first Indian batter ever to smash two double tons against England in a bilateral test series.
Jaiswal even set a record during his Rajkot knock – he hit the joint-most sixes (12) in a single Test innings, with Wasim Akram.
Jaiswal is obviously thrilled with his achievements. He told the ICC that he’s really happy about the award and hopes to win more in the future. He’s been enjoying his performances and is proud of his team’s 4-1 series win. He especially loved his unbeaten double century in Rajkot.
At just 22 years old, Jaiswal’s double centuries made him one of the youngest players ever to achieve this feat, following legends like Sir Donald Bradman and Vinod Kambli. By the end of February, he had scored a mind-blowing 560 runs in just 3 Tests, averaging an impressive 112 runs per innings, and hitting a massive 26 sixes!
He’s kept this winning streak going into March as well! He recently reached 1000 Test runs, becoming the second-fastest Indian cricketer to do so. This young star is definitely one to watch!
