Five Records That Could Be Broken in T20 World Cup 2024

The T20 World Cup is about to kick off, and excitement is in the air! Sixteen top teams will battle it out in Australia for the coveted trophy. As we gear up for the action, let’s look at five big records that might be broken this year.

Total Runs in T20 World Cups

Sri Lankan cricket legend Mahela Jayawardene holds the record for the most runs in T20 World Cup history, with 1016 runs scored in 31 matches. However, three modern-day stars are closing in on his tally. India’s Virat Kohli has 845 runs, his teammate Rohit Sharma has 847, and Australia’s David Warner has 762. Kohli needs just 171 more runs, Sharma needs 169, and Warner needs 254 to surpass Jayawardene. Given their talent, it’s highly likely that one of them will set a new record this year.

Most Catches in T20 World Cups

South African superstar AB de Villiers holds the record for the most catches in T20 World Cup history with 23 catches in 30 matches. New Zealand’s Martin Guptill is not far behind, with 19 catches. If Guptill manages to catch five more balls, he will overtake de Villiers for the most catches ever in the tournament.

Total Dismissals by a South African Keeper in T20 World Cups

Mark Boucher is the most successful South African wicketkeeper in T20 World Cups, with 16 dismissals (catches and stumpings) in 16 matches. His successor, Quinton de Kock, is hot on his heels with 15 dismissals in 13 matches. If de Kock makes just two more dismissals, he will break Boucher’s record and become South Africa’s top wicketkeeper in T20 World Cup history.

Most Four-Wicket Hauls in T20 World Cups

Former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal and Bangladesh’s all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan share the record for the most four-wicket hauls (four-fors) in T20 World Cups, each with three. Shakib has a great chance to take the lead this year. His teammate Mustafizur Rahman, who has two four-fors, could also join the race. It will be exciting to see who comes out on top!

Most Centuries in T20 World Cups

West Indies’ Chris Gayle holds the record for the most centuries in T20 World Cups with two centuries in 31 innings. However, England’s Jos Buttler and Alex Hales each have one century and will be looking to score more in this tournament. If either Buttler or Hales scores two more centuries, they will surpass Gayle. While it’s a tough feat, anything is possible in cricket.

As the T20 World Cup unfolds, keep an eye out for these potential record-breaking performances. It’s going to be a thrilling tournament with lots of history in the making!
