Dates Confirmed For 2025 World Test Championship Final

The cricketing world is buzzing with excitement as the International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the dates for the third edition of the World Test Championship (WTC) final. The prestigious match will take place at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London from June 11 to 15, 2025, with a reserve day set for June 16.

This marks the first time Lord’s will host the WTC final, which has previously been held at Southampton and The Oval. The match will be a thrilling clash between the top two teams in the WTC standings at the end of the current cycle. India, the current leaders, and reigning champions Australia are strong contenders, but other teams like New Zealand, England, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and Bangladesh still have a chance to secure a spot in the final.

The WTC final is a culmination of two years of intense competition, with teams battling it out across 69 matches in 27 series. It’s a celebration of the longer format of the game, attracting cricket enthusiasts from around the globe.

Guy Lavender, Chief Executive & Secretary of MCC, expressed his delight in hosting the WTC final at Lord’s. He emphasized the historic significance of this event, adding to the venue’s 140-year legacy of hosting Test matches.

Geoff Allardice, Chief Executive of the ICC, echoed Lavender’s sentiments, highlighting the growing anticipation for the WTC final. He acknowledged the enduring appeal of Test cricket and encouraged fans to register their interest in tickets early, as demand is expected to be high.

Pat Cummins, the captain of the 2023 WTC winning team, Australia, reflected on the significance of the championship. He emphasized the hard work and consistency required to reach the final and expressed his team’s determination to defend their title.

The announcement of the WTC final dates comes amidst a busy cricketing calendar for England in 2025. The country will host a Test match against India, a women’s ODI against India, and a day/night ODI against South Africa at Lord’s later in the year.

As the countdown begins for the 2025 WTC final, cricket fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating a thrilling contest between the best Test teams in the world. With Lord’s as the backdrop, the match promises to be a historic and unforgettable event.
