Buttler Steals the Show in Epic IPL Chase, goes past Virat Kohli!

In a dramatic turn of events, Rajasthan Royals (RR) pulled off a near-impossible feat in the IPL, chasing down a mammoth total of 224 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens. The hero of the night was Jos Buttler, who single-handedly steered his team to victory with a magnificent century.

Buttler’s knock wasn’t just impressive, it was historic. He smashed an unbeaten 107 runs off just 60 balls, including 9 fours and 6 sixes. This knock not only secured victory for RR, but also saw him surpass several IPL batting milestones.

Firstly, Buttler’s century took RR past their own record for the highest successful run chase in IPL history. They had previously achieved this feat against Punjab Kings in 2020, chasing down the same target of 224 runs. This time around, Buttler ensured history repeated itself.

Secondly, with this ton, Buttler moved ahead of Chris Gayle on the list of most IPL centuries. However, he still trails Virat Kohli in the overall IPL century count. But here’s the twist: Buttler now holds the record for most centuries scored while chasing in the IPL, surpassing Kohli’s previous record of two.

Finally, Buttler’s heroics saw him equal another batting record. He matched Pakistan’s Babar Azam for the most T20 centuries scored in a successful run chase.

The match itself was a nail-biter. Earlier, KKR, batting first, capitalized on a blistering century by Sunil Narine (109 off 56 balls) to post a daunting total of 223 runs. This put immense pressure on RR.

However, Buttler had other plans. He walked out as an “impact player,” meaning he came in to bat earlier than usual, and truly lived up to the name. While wickets kept falling at the other end, Buttler remained calm and composed. He took charge in the final overs, smashing boundaries and taking calculated risks to keep RR in the hunt.

The final over was a heart-stopping affair. RR needed 9 runs to win, and Buttler started off strong by hitting a six off the first ball. But the pressure mounted as the next three deliveries were dots. Needing just one run, Buttler showed nerves of steel and found a gap in the field to secure a thrilling victory for his team.
