BCCI Revises Schedule for India’s Home Season

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made significant changes to the schedule for India’s upcoming home season. The revised itinerary includes venue swaps for some of the high-profile T20I matches.

Gwalior to Host First T20I Against Bangladesh

One of the major alterations is the shift of the first T20I between India and Bangladesh from Dharamsala to Gwalior. Originally scheduled for Dharamsala’s HPCA Stadium on October 6, 2024, the match will now be held at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior. This decision comes in light of ongoing upgrades and renovations at the Dharamsala stadium’s dressing rooms.

Interestingly, the Gwalior match will mark a historic moment as it will be the first-ever international cricket match at the newly constructed stadium. The venue holds special significance as it was the stage for Sachin Tendulkar’s historic double century in ODIs against South Africa in 2010.

Venue Swap for India vs England T20Is

Another change in the schedule involves the first two T20Is of the India-England series. Initially, Chennai was set to host the first match on January 22, 2025, followed by Kolkata on January 25, 2025. However, due to a request from Kolkata Police to accommodate their Republic Day commitments, the venues have been swapped. Kolkata will now host the first T20I, while Chennai will host the second.

Overview of India’s Home Season

Despite the venue changes, the overall schedule for India’s home season remains largely unaffected. The two-Test series against Bangladesh will kick off on September 19, followed by three T20Is. Subsequently, New Zealand will tour India for a three-Test series starting October 16. The much-anticipated England tour, comprising five T20Is and three ODIs, is scheduled for January 22 to February 12, 2025. These ODIs will be India’s final 50-over matches before the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

These schedule changes reflect the BCCI’s commitment to providing the best possible cricketing experience for both players and fans. While the venue swaps might disrupt initial plans for some, they also offer opportunities for cricket enthusiasts in Gwalior to witness international cricket for the first time.
